In the Spring of 2003, three Lambda sisters desired to start a GAP chapter in South Florida. Being that a great deal of the Florida State University's student population and Lambda chapter sisters are from South Florida, these sisters felt that a GAP chapter in South Florida could flourish greatly, just as the Lambda chapter had. The summer after graduation, Lambda chapter founder, Susan LoBianco and Caryn Haywood joined the first graduate of the Lambda chapter, Lambda founder and advisor, Dawn Clouse, back home in South Florida . These three ladies founded the South Florida GAP colony during the summer of 2003.
In the fall of 2003, Kappa chapter founder Nicole Taylor, Nadira Mathlin from the Beta chapter, and Joy "Niecy" Williams, a GAP sister in Tampa , FL , joined the colony. On Januray 23rd, 2004, these 6 women achieved chapter status and became the Xi Zeta chapter.
